Junior Report
SEPTEMBER 2009
Hi All - This season is already looking to be a very promising and eventful one for all our junior surfers - with outstanding surfng in the 08/09 season by the younger generation, showing how much talent there is throughout the junior section of the club.
Presentation night showed a good turn up from all junior surfers, with interesting dance moves by Michael Barber. Congratulations to Grant Williams (Cadet winner), Angus Forrest (Junior winner) and Darcy on winning the ‘helicopter award’.
PSC is looking into many training ideas for the junior surfers; such as involving Garry from the HPC to come down and spend a week teaching the juniors, A Grommets away weekend where a bus full of Junior surfers head down to Phillip island for the weekend, these are only a couple of the many ideas being put forward by the club to make the most of the new season.
Hope to see everyone down at the beach and at the comps, looks like a great season ahead for all Junior Surfers.

No only did last weekend see some of the biggest swell in many moons, but it saw the last contest of the Victorian Junior Series.
The Victorian scholastic titles was held at Torquay Point in huge surf conditions. But this only allowed our great juniors to shread!
Our Under 19 Boys battled out the high quality blue ribbon event that saw the contesting of Victorias best junior surfers in solid conditions. Hayden Forrest (Dromana Secondary College), Angus Forrest (Dromana Secondary College), and Tim Williams (Peninsula School) ripped there way to the Semi finals. Unfortunately Hayden surfed well but was unlucky not to make the final. Angus and Tim convincing booked their berths in the Final, surfing the big faces of Torquay Point. The final was very close with all surfers racking up some great scores. Angus was pipped at the post in the last 30 seconds, however he achieved a fantastic 2nd and Tim a close 3rd behind him. The Fantastic Noodle Waves of the day went to Angus Forrest (Dromana S.C) for a filthy grab rail cutback.
The Under 16 Girls saw Matilda Mclellan (Toorak College) surfing against an inform Nicky Van Dyke. Matilda rose to the challenge surfing the large conditions with confidence and finesse. Matilda surfed well and achieved a 3rd place. Fantastic effort.
Lastly saw the 8 year old Piper Harrison (Kunyung primary school) competing in the Under 13 Girls. The extremley large and heavy conditions were very challenging and despite getting flogged out the back ,continued to the shore and paddled back to a closer reform. Despite posting several good waves on the scoreboard, she was just beaten by the west coast 12 year old Jemina Hutchins.
The overall State Junior results also reflected a great performance by: Grant Williams posted two 3rd and a 4th to give him a spot in the Victoian State team in Under 16 Boys. Matilda Mclellan gained 2nd, 3rd and 4th and after a surf off made the State team also. Piper Harrison placed 2nd overall in the Under 13 Girls, however, they do not compete at National level until Under 16. Congratulations to them all on a great effort and goodluck for the Nationals.
Overall it has been a fantastic Junior series for our surfers whom compete. I would like to congratulate all our juniors whom made the effort to compete and make the long journeys to all these venues. Liam Fowler, Grant Williams, Tim Williams, Micheal Antonie, Tom Antonie, Angus Forrest, Hayden Forrest, Sam Chalmers, Darcy Malesa, Georgia Fish, Matilda Mclellan and Piper Harrison. All these kids represented your club with diginity, good sportsmanship and tried their best even when the conditions were trying. A huge Thank you, as always to the parents whom relentlessly support their children in their chosen sport. I would encourage everyone to congratulate these juniors on a fantastic effort.
These amazing Trigger groms began their competitive surfing in the Trigger Brothers PSC Surfcrew. This junior series enables young surfers to get a taste of competitive surfing in a supportive and encouraging environment. It allows them to develop contest skills and confidence which then enables them to compete at club level, state level and national level. The Surfcrew season commences in September so look out for the dates on www.triggerbros.com.au and www.psc.org.au
Thanks,
Melissa Dart-Harrison

MARCH 2008
Hello, and welcome to this month’s junior report. I’ll just start off by thanking Ryan for leaving me to do this report by myself, pretty stoked about it, Cheers pal and just for a general comment, yaaa wade.
Anyway moving on. Last weekend saw gunna as the host of the first comp of the 2008 Victorian Quiksilver Junior series. Gunna of course didn’t disappoint turning on some fun 2-4ft waves for the early rounds. Good to see a few groms making it easily through there first round heats using a bit of well used local knowledge. With the tide rising for the finals the waves on the left seemed to kick along with the raging grommets spirits. Honorable mentions went to Angus Forest, semi finalist (who also went on to receive both the best on ground and the bourdon award at the Williams pad for Tim’s after party / hand sympathy bash) well done there. Also to Hobbit Chalmers for making his first state final and taking out 3rd as well as Georgia Fish for taking out the under 18’s girls. East coast represent, aha.
Coming up on the next comp free weekend Man child and myself are trying to get a coach to come over and throw out some handy tips to everyone. Were hoping to do a training session on the Saturday then a BBQ back at the club house, maybe watch some footage of the day then all camp out and do another session on the Sunday. So if anyone is interested just let either of us know so we can get an idea of numbers and get it happening.
Also the 3rd psc comp of the season is coming up on the 8th of March so all you frothers get down there as it would be good to see a few more people in the Junior division (No body likes straight finals).
Anyway that’s it for this month, if I’ve forgotten to mention anyone this month, neck up, nuh just let us know and you will be front page next time,
See you in the barrel,
Caiden

OCTOBER 2007
Yeah Gday, Welcome to the 2007/08 season. Firstly well done to all the place getters in last season. It was really good to see some new names achieving some solid results, keep it up.
This season we are aiming to lift the standard of junior surfers of our club by having various training sessions with coaches and training camps. There has already been 2 days of training with Team Australia's Head Coach, Sasha Stocker a few weeks ago. There were 6 people that were involved over the two days who were coached from 9am-4pm with Sasha's high profile coaching. Every surfer was filmed and was able to see what they were doing right and wrong on different waves and enabled them to better their performance in the second session after the video analysis at lunch time. After the 2 days were completed every surfer thought it was very worth while and will help their surfing for the rest of their life and we strongly encourage all the groms to get involved next time.
Also last week a bunch of psc groms hit the west coast to compete in the Ripcurl Grom Search. The comp was held at good old Jan Juc which everyone always looks forward to. Juc came to the party with some pumping head high peeks which provided the surfers with some fun ripable waves. As always the NSW and QLD kids smashed it but some of our surfers such as Hobbit, Liam, Mike, Wade, Grant and Georgia took it up to the interstate kids. Well done to everyone that competed as we had a good show of groms from the club.
Anyone that wants to compete in the club team or just come along for the training sessions for the heck of it get info of Redeye or Lachy and head down to the beach as we need as many juniors and cadets there as we can get. Tag team is on the 3rd of November so book your spot on the bus.
Caiden & Ryan, your junior reps, peace.

FEBRUARY 2006
G'day everyone, first off congratulations to all the PSC members who competed in the Balin Pro Junior.
Well done for Sean Winter on progressing through to the second, also older bro Jack on making
second round and a solid effort by Alex Vrana who surfed well but was unable to capitalize in the trying conditions and unfortunately not
progressing.
Back to the second comp at gunna, where I believe the junior and cadet divisions are really stepping up another notch with some
radical surfing in junior and cadet final. All us juniors were stoked to
see two of us making the open final with Sean getting a third and Alex getting a fourth.
Also it is sick to see some new faces in the cadet division with three or four new grommies.
Finally, for this year I have planned a surf trip for juniors and couple of cadets this year. The trip will be up to just South of the Goldie to the 'High Performance Centre'. The centre is solely focused on the improvement of your surfing, having already done the camp my self I think it really does improve your surfing. The camp goes for 5 days and can be arranged any time of the year, but sooner is better than later. There will be limited spots for this camps with max of about 10,
so get in early. All interest call or msg ADAM on 0439 838 894
Keep rippin,
Adam Morris (Junior Rep) |
