Working Bee Thanks

Massive thanks to all who turned up at the working bee. A lot was accomplished with a new driveway being put in behind the skate ramp, fire hazard clearance near the shaping sheds, storage created under the skate ramp, the bar renovation beginning with the bar being moved, GT's container cleaned out, and generaly cleaning and maintenance work done.
Thanks especially to Rod Barber, JP Ricca, Jason Owen, Straussy, Ronnie Gorringe, Jai for cooking, Darty and James Thompson for clearing the new driveway, and all those forgotten.
We have a great club and premises and the effort we all put in secures that for the future. To anyone who didn't turn up and failed to communicate with us, well your aggregate result might receive a minor shock! |

Final contest competed in great waves!
The fifth & final aggregate contest was completed on Saturday 22nd May at 1st car park Gunnamatta in clean 3ft sunny conditions.

Peninsula Surfriders Take Up the Challenge!

And what a challenge it was! On Saturday 24th April 2010, PSC held its annual Single Fin Classic in support of charity organisation - Challenge. In harsh, wintery conditions, over 80 members and guests crawled from their warm beds to don their wetsuits in support of Challenge to make waves for kids with Cancer at Gunnamatta.
And, whilst conditions on the day weren’t ideal, the action around the beach was not to be missed with great 1970s surfboards on display, some fancy dress competitors, and of course hilarious surfing highlights (and lowlights) on the unconventional equipment. Caiden Fowler, Amy Hackett, Ronnie Gorringe and Liam McCafferty won the open, womens, over 50s, and over 35 divisions respectively.
The real winner on the day was Challenge however as the club had organized a web-based fundraising campaign prior to the event. And with major prize incentives and fantastic support provided by event sponsors TriggerBros Surfboards, Billabong, Rusty, and Insight, Spikas Retro Surfboards, Oke Surfboards, JB Hifi and Four N Twenty Pies, combining with such a worthy cause, the total raised topped $10,000.
Liam McCafferty and Kerri Pope took home a surf gear pack for their highest fundraising effort and summed up the clubs’ work perfectly - “everyone should be proud of supporting such a fantastic charity and taking part in a great event. It reminds us of just how lucky we are.” Jane Featherstone, Morgan Winch, Gavin Duffy, Tim Antonie, and Sam McOrist were also rewarded for their large fundraising and contributions.
As Challenge’s Australian Marketing Manager, Sam’s work was doubly important. "I'd like to give a big thanks to the Peninsula Surfriders Club and everyone involved in running the event and making it such a success. We look forward to more fun at the beach with PSC next year!”
|
 |
Lachy closed speeches at the after party/celebration by saying “We are extremely proud as a club to raise a significant amount for such a worthy cause and aim to go bigger and better for Challenge in years to come.”
The Peninsula Surfriders Club’s aggregate season will finish this Saturday the 8th of May at Gunnamatta with its 5th contest (conditions permitting). |

PSC Comp 4 Scores Epic Conditions!
On Saturday the 17th of April the Peninsula Surfriders Club held their fourth aggregate contest for the season in prime, 4-6 foot waves at Gunnamatta under a cloudless, 26 degree sky.
The level of surfing was predictably high, with local hotshots Adam Morris, Caiden Fowler, Joel Reid, Alex Vrana, Tim Dexter and Ross McDonald dominating the early open rounds. McDonald top-scored the day with a two-wave total combined score of 17.7 point out of a possible 20 in classic right barrels.
With three perfect banks in a 200 meter stretch, the contest directors split the contest onto the two main right-handers. The junior division revelled on the first peak, with Mike Antonie, Tom Lyon and Mikey Barber all showing their talent on the long, walled-up waves.
In the older divisions Tim Antonie, Peter Watts, Ron Gorringe, Mark Walker and Geoff Vockler showed that age doesn’t matter with some excellent scoring rides on the second bank.
Georgia Fish and Matilda McLellan fought hard with the other girls in the women’s and girls heats, with Georgia winning both divisions.
As the tide filled in later in the afternoon and the wind backed off, magical 5ft rights peeled over the rocks and the comp shifted solely to the second bank. The finals in all divisions were awesome, but it was the premiere junior and open divisions that kept everyone around, with a large crowd enjoying some awesome action in the dropping sunlight.
Mike Antonie outshone in the juniors with a series of timeless carves, against some epic rides from Mikey Barber, Tom Lyon and Liam Fowler second, third and fourth respectively.
In the open division, Tim Dexter’s super-critical re-entries and commitment scored him an excellent 9-point ride on a big set wave to gain a strong lead against Joel Reid in second, who scored well with some great tube-riding with Liam Jolly and Cal Nicolson showing some great backhand surfing coming in third and fourth position respectively.

2nd PSC Contest Completed : Dec 12

After three bad weekends of surf consecutively, the Peninsula Surfriders Club was determined to hold their second annual contest no matter what mother nature served up last saturday. Strong onshore winds and a 1.5 metre swell at Rye Back Beach offered less than ideal surf but didn't dampen spirits or performance levels of the 100 strong turnout.
With a quick start to the morning thanks to a preregister system and heat draw, 3 hours of open division surfing highlighted the potential of the average waves to spectators and other divisions. Excellent performances came from Junior surfers Mikey Barber, Hayden Forrest and Sam Chalmers while open regulars Caiden Fowler, Ross McDonald, Jack Winter and Joel Reid also put on great displays.
As the day progressed, the weather cleared and the field was wittled to only 8 open surfers prior to contest directors Liam and Tim sending out the older divisions. The atmosphere in the carpark electrified as the low-tide provided challenging conditions for many of the club's senior members.
The women's final gallantly took on the conditions with Matilda McLellan coming out the victor over Amy Hacket, Michelle Richens and Melissa Dart.
The cadet final followed with Grant Williams and Tom Antonie ripping the waves they caught with Grant Williams coming out the victor in the last minute with an excellent scoring wave and Christian coming in third.
The junior final had the best waves of the finals and the performance level was extremely high in the double up rights and showed why they are the future of progressive surfing on the Mornington Peninsula. Hayden Forrest's flawless style was on display with a victory to a close second Michael Antonie, with Michael Barber in third, Tim Williams in fourth and Sam Chalmers in fifth. The result opens up the Junior Aggregate title with many strong contenders.
The open final was hotly contested by Adam Morris, Calum Nicolson, Jack Winter and Ross McDonald with Calum blitzing the field with two very high scoring waves, followed by Jack with an extremely vertical attack, Ross third surfing extremely smoothy and Adam fourth. The win (coupled with first comp's second place) puts Nicolson (21 years old) in a strong position to claim his first Open Aggregate title as the season shifts into the latter half after the summer holiday period.
Other division winners were Cam Stynes (Senior Mens), Charlie Nann (Masters), Tim Antonie (Senior Masters), Mark Harrison (Grand Masters) and Ron Gorringe (Legends).
Thanks to club sponsors Ozmosis, Everist Timber & Bon Accorde.

Teams Titles 09 : 6th Sept Jan Juc

Massive thanks to all surfers who did a great job on the day. Particularly to Tex for a huge effort as a late call up (and injured!), and to Adam Morris, Cal Nico, Hayden Forrest, Mikey Barber and Georgia Fish for excellent performances. Also to Timmy, Grant, Pittsy, Jolly, Matilda, GT, and Jack for a good effort in the teams events. A huge thanks to all committee for making it happen, in particular Rod Barber, Jane, Jonny, Sean and GT. - Lachy - View Photos > |
