APRIL 2006
What is surfing all about for you? Is it about having fun with your friends, getting fit, an outlet for stress, an inlet for nature and satisfaction, a connection between you and the ocean or simply an adrenaline hunting addiction? Or, is it an opportunity to show your competitive streak and gain some kudos from a surf industry abuzz with cameras, cash, and competition?
For me it's probably all of the above (except the cameras and cash bizzo). But there is one important reward that being involved in a boardriders club such as PSC gives you that surfing alone, as wonderful as it is can't do. The Teams Titles event held last Saturday at Woolamai Phillip Island proved exactly that. The conditions for late April were fantastic with pumping waves all day, a friendly, social atmosphere between the two clubs and of course the chance to compete for PSC and as a team with the chicks we normally compete against.
The junior girls put on an unbelievable show in their heat for all the spectators. Hoots could be heard as far away as San Remo as mini 40kg rippers tore the waves apart upstaging most other divisions. Well done to all the PSC junior girls who surfed on the day and thanks to everyone who rocked up you were all unreal. The open women's was a competitive but very social gathering of friends from the Peninsula and the Island with everyone surfing well in the great conditions. The tag team even was a rocking success as we won thanks to the chicks of course!!! Finally although we have some work to do to raise the standard of women's surfing on the Peninsula so we can kick PI's @$$ next year, we should have a blast doing it because we love it.
Catch you in the water chickadees.

FEBRUARY 2006
Hello everyone, Congratulations to all the girls who competed on Saturday. We had such a fantastic turnout we were able to run a
junior girls division. Welcome to all the new PSC ladies including Michelle from Newcastle and all the new girl grommets.
Due to some quick thinking and action by Mel Harrision (big thankyou) the chick brigade headed down to second car park where plenty
of surfable waves and loads of fun was had by all the junior girls making it a very successful contest. Well done to the junior girls
who made it through to the final. It really showed that there is so much surfing talent on the Peninsula and 'girls in the curl'
is really going to take off. Sian Lewis was a standout on the day coming first in the junior and third in the open. Surfsational!
Now I should talk about the older girls. We had some trying conditions out at first carpark in the 'washing machine'
for the first heat. Michelle, Mel and Tracey managed to find some waves to show of their surfing talents. The second heat was
a walk through although Sian and Sophie wanted to keep surfing. It was great watching the final as there was a very
high standard of surfing with the final results being very close. Mel showed great improvement with a forth place,
Sian opting for the cleaner waves on the right pulled into some smash barrels and did some very stylish turns,
Sophie coming second by finding some bigger waves and tearing them apart and Tracey showed us all the reason she is
number one by making the washing machine waves on the left look fantabulous.
Well it was a splashtastic day and I look forward to seeing you all making the most of the summer we have left in the only way we know how.
Catch you in the water chickadees...

November 2005
Hello everyone,
Hope you have all been taking advantage of the balmy sunshine and fun
waves we have been lapping up lately. Hope you all noted that it was especially
good on the weekend that should have been the Team's Titles. Thanks to
everyone who was amped up to go even if it hasnât happened yet. The question
on everyone's lips is Why didn't everyone just come over here (the promised
land)? There were plenty of fun waves to be had all weekend along our
beautiful beaches. But we all know the answer to that one, don't we? Hmmmmm.
Anyhoo, enough of that. The first contest of the season was an exciting
one with challenging conditions for all the girls (and a few of the fellas
too I believe). Due to a late change in entrants, it ran as a straight
final. While there was a few of us in the water, there was plenty of waves
coming through and plenty of time to catch them. The trick was getting
the right ones that offered opportunities for manouvulers (that would
be big bottom turns girls - yes, it's an in joke). Congratulations to
all the girls who surfed, it was a gutsy effort with strong rips and sizeable
swell. Stoked to surf with Sophie Ciszek again who has rejoined this year.
Yey. Thanks also to Wardo from all the girls (you know why honey).
It was also awesome to catch up with all the younger surfer chicks checking
out what PSC is all about. Please join up for the next one (19th November).
Girls sign in at 10am (normally at Gunnamatta). Just look for the PSC
trailer. If the swell and weather is looking questionable, call the clubhouse
to find out if it's on and where it is. Well done to Amy Hackett and Tracey
Browne for getting through to the Aussie titles and giving it there best
up in NSW. Great work Trace, rumour has it you caught a really good one
up there and came home with the bling bling.
Catch you in the water chickadees.

May 2005
Can't believe the season is over.
All five contests completed. No more chances to take out the title. It
is done.
Now we just have to wait with baited breath on the announcement of the
season. Wait for it... Easy tiger... THE WOMENÕS 2004/2005 TOP SIX.
To tell you the truth I have no idea how things will pan out with mixed
results and close competitions all year. Should be a very interesting
outcome as it really could be anyone taking home the gold (or giant wooded
trophie thingie). Once again it proves how the standard of competition
has improved in the womenÕs division. Next season could also hold some
changes with expressions of interest from many younger female surfers
looking to join the club. Possibly a junior womenÕs division if we get
the numbers. Fingers crossed girls. Remember to come along to AGM to receive
a discount on membership and have a say in how and who runs P.S.C.
Make sure you rock up to the Presso Night girls. Chance to frock
up in our finest evening wear and don our sparkly jewels and show the
boys what we look like out of a wetsuit. Bring a date if want to, though
the boy/girl ratio could be a little out of kilter already. Give me a
buzz if you need a ticket.
Finally as WomenÕs Rep I have really loved getting to know you all and
I hope I have done a good job representing us chicks this season. Though
we only had one girlÕs night at the clubhouse it was great fun and sure
to become a tradition next season. Keep in touch during the winter months
and call me for a surf any time.
Hope to see you all on 4th June.

March 2005
I don't have as much to report this time round. No
natural disasters apart from the casualties in the last contest. Erica
with her slashed ankle and Kylie's cut foot. What can we say. You girls
are hardcore!!! The waves weren't too bad, onshore but still fun, 2-4ft
right handers at first cary. Tracey once again getting the gold,
but only by a whisker (Samuel's of course). The new recruit Sarah Browne
(Tracey's sister inlaw) coming a very close second. Which just goes to
show inlaws and all that!!! Hmmm. Myself scraping into third place, followed
closely by a badly wounded Erica Honer. She battled on till the
end of the heat with her foot hanging on by a scrap of muscle and sinew.
Mel P and Kylie making it through to the final with some
excellent surfing in the unfavourable waves. Well done to all the girls
who came and competed on the day. Why not stay back for some fun at the
clubhouse after the contest next time? Show the boys how to really skate
the half pipe (and dislocate limbs).
The first Girl's in the Curl Night at the clubhouse was a total
success with surf girls from the PSC comp and the Trigger comp getting
together for a great night of fun, food, skateboard limbo and scary walks
in the dark. It will definitely be a regular event so keep your eyes on
the women's report for the next one.
Catch you later.

February 2005
What a bizarre, crazy summer this has been so far.
I think for all surfers and ocean lovers in general the Tsunami disaster
was reminder to respect the power and unpredictability of the ocean. It
also reminded us yet again to be thankful for living in such an amazing
place here on the Mornington Peninsula and Melbourne (way above sea level).
You should all read Sarah Browne's (local surfer girl) personal experience
of the Tsunami in Sri Lanka in the next issue of Tracks. She has a pretty
amazing story to tell involving some real heroics from the local surfers
in the village where she was staying. It is also a sad story as these
people have lost so much.
Well, with Christmas, New Years and Tsunamis our last contest seems a
lifetime ago. If memory serves me right (and left), it was held on a lovely
day in small sunny, offshore conditions at 1st Car Park, Gunnamatta, with
a huge turnout from the girls. Stoked! Nice one Trace for taking out the
title with some very stylish manouvulers and Erica charging into second
place with great wave selections. We are going to have to keep a close
eye on Mel Harrison, pulling out the tactics she caught some sneaky ones
on the inside to come a very close third. Love your work Mel. Kylie, new
to the comp also showed some great surfing with forth place. (Look out
for her in the bigger stuff - she charges!) Sophie McInley, consistently
making the final and proving the future of women's surfing on the Peninsula
is definitely looking up. Big encouragement to Claire Wardo for being
so amped about anything to do with chicks surfing as well, you are such
a legend.
Speaking of legends I was lucky enough to be down at the Island to watch
the Roxy Pro WQS Women's Surfing Festival 2005 and see the best women
surfers in the world absolutely rip in epic, perfect awesome waves. I
mean they were really ripping and the waves were perfecto (no flailing
to be seen). Melanie Redman-Carr (Dunsborough, W.A) ended Chelsea GeorgesonÕs
domination by winning the final of the four-star event in awesome six-foot
(2m) waves at Woolies. Our Tracey 'Shrappa' Browne also surfing exceptionally
well in the overhead conditions at Flynns, to place equal 33. No walk
of shame there. Just watching these chicks rip was so inspiring.
Re-scheduled to Friday 25th February, Girls in the Curl chicks surf night.
Meet at clubhouse at 5pm for a surf then 7:30pm for dinner, videos and
actual footage of the last two contests. Bring sleeping bag etc if you
want to stay over. All girls who surf are welcome (not just members).
And weÕll see you all bright and early at the contest this Sunday (or
at least 10am after a good sleep in anyway).
All I can say is look out lads the chicks are taking over.
