The Peninsula Surfriders Club held its third aggregate competition last Saturday in epic conditions – blue skies, light offshores and four to five foot waves. With over 100 surfers competing, the first heat hit the water on sunrise and the contest had to be run on multiple banks to get it done in one day. A great time was had by all with fantastic competitive and free surfing on display from dawn to dust. In the Open final Liam Jolly took out first place with an awesome display of back hand vertical surfing. Cal Nicholson also blasted a couple of big turns to give him second place with the ultra smooth style of Ross Macdonald giving him third and Robbie Warden making his first Open final coming in fourth. Cal’s second place puts him in a commanding position to take out the Open Aggregate for the year with two rounds to go. Liam’s win moves him to second place in the Aggregate with Jack Winter third and Ross Macdonald fourth. The juniors division once again displayed the great depth of talent on the Peninsula. In an awesome final Michael Antonie ripped two waves apart to give him the win over Michael Barber in a close second followed by Jakk Lyon and Tim Williams. Michael Antonie’s win moves him to first place in the Junior Aggregate with Tim Williams in second and Hayden Forest in third. The Junior Aggregate placings are very much still open with up to 6 surfers still able to take out the title. In the cadets, Grant Williams cemented the Cadet Aggregate with a third straight win with Tom Antonie in second, Christian Hall in third and William Antonie in his first competition in fourth. Georgia Fish unleashed some radical surfing on the lefthanders to take out both the Girls and Women’s divisions with some great surfing. Amy Hacket, Matilda McClelland and Melissa and Piper Harrison also caught some great waves. Other division winners included Shannon Creasy, Wattsy, David Parsons, Mark Harrison, Luke Featherson and Ron Gorringe. A big thanks to our major sponsor Ozmosis. |
